Biography
Victoria Thomen (Santo Domingo, 1974) is an Italian–Dominican visual artist, photographer, and architect. She lives and works between Rome, Madrid, and Santo Domingo. Her perspective grows from observation and an ongoing dialogue between human beings, nature, and the memory of places.
From her first photographs as a teenager —when her father gave her a camera— she understood the image as a way of inhabiting time and preserving what tends to disappear. Her training in architecture expanded this vision toward territory and materiality: in her practice, the image becomes a space of symbolic reconstruction where landscape, history, and human experience converge.
She develops an interdisciplinary practice that moves across photography, video art, and installation, integrating artistic research, collage, and new media, including experimentation with contemporary digital tools. Her work has been presented in institutions, biennials, festivals, and screenings in Europe and the Caribbean, including the Museum of Modern Art in Santo Domingo, the National Biennial of Visual Arts, Photoimagen, Maker Faire Rome / Italia Media Art Festival, and the Durrës International Biennale (Albania).

Victoria Thomen (Santo Domingo, 1974) es una artista visual, fotógrafa y arquitecta italo-dominicana. Vive y trabaja entre Roma, Madrid y Santo Domingo. Su mirada nace de la observación y la búsqueda constante de diálogo entre el ser humano, la naturaleza y la memoria de los lugares.
Desde sus primeras fotografías en la adolescencia —cuando su padre le regaló una cámara— Victoria entendió la imagen como una forma de habitar el tiempo y de guardar lo que tiende a desaparecer. Su formación en arquitectura amplió esa visión hacia el territorio y la materia: en su práctica, la imagen se convierte en un espacio de reconstrucción simbólica entre paisaje, historia y experiencia humana.
A lo largo de su trayectoria, ha transitado entre la fotografía, el video y la instalación, integrando procesos de investigación artística con una sensibilidad profundamente ecológica y social. Su trabajo ha sido presentado en instituciones y bienales de arte en Europa y el Caribe, entre ellas el Museo de Arte Moderno de Santo Domingo, la Bienal Nacional de Artes Visuales, Photoimagen, la Maker Faire Rome, el Italia Media Art Festival y la Durrës International Biennale en Albania.
Victoria Thomen construye, a través de imágenes, objetos y gestos visuales, una poética del territorio y de la transformación: un modo de mirar el mundo desde las huellas que deja el paso del tiempo y desde la posibilidad de renacer que existe en toda forma de vida.
