De Buena Madera (2012)
Victoria Thomen Photo & Image presents a photographic series that draws attention to the deterioration of Victorian houses in Sánchez, Dominican Republic. Using a documentary approach, the project highlights an architectural tradition that spread globally from the mid-19th century, shaped by a mix of influences and the artisanal use of wood, then adapted in the Caribbean into distinctive local forms. Shipped in parts by boat and assembled on site, these homes are recognized for their galleries, ventilation features, and vibrant colors. The series serves as a visual archive and a reflection on the fragility of built heritage.
